美國Clontech        2005年7月1日，日本最大的生物工程公司TaKaRa公司宣布花費6千萬美元成功從BD Biosciences收購Clontech單元。此收購計劃已經于2005年8月底完成，Clontech已成為TaKaRa全資子公司。
美國Clontech是1984年由華人方瑞賢創辦的，一度曾經是眾多海外華人的驕傲。因為方瑞賢創辦的是全美第一家，也是亞裔創辦的最大的分子生物公司，更重要的是Clontech 建立了生物技術中建立基因文庫的模式。在Clontech 被BD收購時已有四百名員工，包括六十五位博士，擁有五十多項專利，產品已達兩千多種，堪稱全球數一、數二的基因庫，提供全球三十多個國家基因實驗室或是學術界做研究之用。該公司有曾于一九九四、一九九五、一九九八及一九九九年被圣荷西及舊金山商業報紙選為一百個成長最快的私人公司。Clontech公司一直銳意進取，其開發的產品多次獲得全美R&D100金獎。產品范圍包括基因識別、基因表達、基因功能研究，大家熟悉的Smart Race，Altas DNA矩陣，SSH消減雜交、MTN膜、多色熒光蛋白載體、MatchMaker酵母雙雜交系列也在其中。

此次收購會給Takara帶來以下收益：極大地豐富Takara原來的產品線；迅速擴增TaKaRa在歐美市場的份額，因為Clontech 70％以上的銷售是來自于歐美，而Takara 85％的收益來自于日本本土市場。本次收購將全面擴展日本產品在歐美的銷售。另外Takara將整合并加強日本本土和位于美國的Clontech研發部，加快產品的開發，提高Takara在全球生命科學研究市場的份額。
